Halo Blockheads! Kabar terbaru dari Zimbabwe yang bikin gebrakan keren. Mereka ngeluarin token digital yang di-backup dengan emas, dan siap-siap jadi metode pembayaran resmi. Pada tanggal 5 Oktober kemarin, Zimbabwe resmi meluncurkan token digital berbasis emas yang mereka beri nama Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG). Kabar baik ini datang langsung dari Bank Reserve Zimbabwe (RBZ). Ternyata, proyek ini sudah diperkenalkan sejak bulan April 2023, lho. Yang bikin makin keren, setiap token digital ini punya backup emas fisik yang disimpan di cadangan bank. RBZ sendiri udah mulai menerbitkan token berbasis emas fisik sejak tahun 2022 dan mereka bangga dengan suksesnya. Nah, apa tujuannya bikin token emas digital ini? Jadi, mereka pengen banget meyakinkan investor-investor lokal buat ngeluarin uangnya bukan dalam bentuk Dolar Amerika Serikat, terutama di negara yang lagi berjuang dengan inflasi tiga digit. Gubernur RBZ, John Mangudya, menjelaskan, “Penerbitan token digital yang didukung emas dimaksudkan untuk memperluas instrumen menjaga nilai yang tersedia dalam perekonomian dan meningkatkan keterpisahan instrumen investasi serta memperluas akses dan penggunaannya oleh masyarakat.” Nah, token digital keren ini bisa kamu simpan di dompet e-gold atau kartu e-gold. Dan yang lebih seru lagi, bisa dipake buat transaksi antar teman atau bisnis. Jadi, kamu bisa bayar pakai ZiG. Harganya pun bervariasi tergantung berat emas yang jadi backup-nya. Misalnya, 1 ons ZiG harganya sekitar $1.910, atau kalau mau coba-coba, bisa beli 0.1 ons cuma sekitar $191. Menurut laporan bank, tanggal 28 September kemarin, ada investor yang beli setara dengan 17.65 kilogram ZiG, bayarnya pake Dollar Zimbabwe dan Dolar Amerika Serikat. Total penjualan ZiG sejak fase penjualan token digital sebelumnya sudah mencapai sekitar 350 kilogram emas. Zimbabwe memang sudah lama berjuang dengan masalah stabilitas mata uang dan inflasi yang terus meroket selama lebih dari satu dekade. Pada tahun 2009, mereka putuskan pakai Dollar Amerika Serikat sebagai mata uang resmi sebagai tanggapan atas inflasi yang nggak terkendali, sampe mata uang lokal hampir nggak ada harganya. Tapi tahun 2019, mereka berani mencoba lagi dengan mengenalkan mata uang mereka sendiri, cuma sayang, volatilitas mata uang tetap tinggi. Semoga dengan hadirnya ZiG, Zimbabwe bisa nemuin solusi finansial yang selama ini mereka usahakan. Ternyata keren banget kan Blockheads negara Afrika yang satu ini.
